The History of Richard Bland and Family

This LibGuide discusses the family history of Statesman Richard Bland, as well as Mr. Bland's history

Theodorick Bland (1708/1719 to 1784)

Theodorick Bland was either born in 1708 or 1719.  He was the youngest child of Elizabeth Randolph and Richard Bland I.  He resided at Cawsons in the northern part of Hopewell, Virginia, after he had purchased the land from a Mister Cawson.  During the American Revolution, Cawsons was not destroyed by the British, as the British soldiers were ordered not to touch the site.  However, Theodorick's son's place, named Kippax, was allowed to be demolished.  Theodorick wed first to Frances Bolling, who was the daughter of Drury Bolling, then he was wed to Elizabeth Yates.  He labored as the Clerk for Prince George County, Virginia, and he was the county's Lieutenant.  Theodorick and his son Theodorick, along with his son-in-law John Randolph of Matoax, acquired more powder for the magazine at Williamsburg.  Theodorick's opinion about the British was that the colonies should split from the motherland, and he disliked the British Parliament.
