Edible Book Festivals happen all over the world, usually on or around April 1. April 1st is the birthday of French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), famous for his book Physiologie du goût. April Fools Day is also the perfect day to eat your words and play with them!
Art librarian Judith A. Hoffberg and artist Béatrice Coron held the first edible book festival in 2000, after Judith conceived of the idea at a Thanksgiving dinner with book artists in 1999.
